Bronchitis

Yep, the title says it all...I've got Bronchitis. It started out as a measly little cold and then became a lovely case of coughing. There's really no "cure" for Bronchitis outside of time...so now I'll just lumber along hacking my brains out until it runs its course. Boooooo...

Other than that, I'm actually VERY proud of myself: I've stuck to my diet and lost 10 lbs. in 3 weeks so far. I haven't been to the gym since getting sick, but at least I've kept the eating clean and it's been showing results. I'm sure I'd feel alot worse if I were eating crappy on top of being sick. Usually when I'm sick I cave in and eat junk food and justify it by saying that I deserve comfort food since I'm so uncomfortable...but not this time...I justified eating healthy to help myself get healthy instead. I didn't even give in to the soda cravings...I haven't had a soda in 3 weeks...nope, not a one. I actually do think giving up the soda (even though it was diet) has helped me in my weight loss journey this time...and I finally feel that I'm getting past the point of actually wanting or craving it. My joints don't hurt anymore either, so something good is going on with all this clean and healthy eating...and I'm sure taking my vitamins doesn't hurt either.

My only negative is the sleep factor still...I'm deep in Opera season with many shows on the horizon, both performing and tech-wise and it's definitely pulling me in a million directions all at once and leaving very little time for sleep. As usual my days start at 6am and go until Midnight (add nightime coughing fits) and voila, a recipe for exhaustion. Yeah, I know, that's not going to help me recover from Bronchitis any quicker, but what's a girl to do. I need my day job to eat (and they are having another round of lay-offs here) and I need my night jobs to pursue my Opera career. Speaking of, the Opera career is going quite well and it seems that the hard work is starting to pay off. With Die Fledermaus coming up, I've actually received other "Fledermaus" audition offers. In the Opera business it's a catch 22...in order to perform a role, you already have to know the role...so it's up to the artist to learn it on their own at all costs. Nobody's going to trust you with a role on a mainstage production if you don't have the experience...just like you wouldn't trust a forklift to someone who's never driven. So I'm very excited about all the possibilities coming my way.

Now to today's plan: I will continue to eat healthy, in fact I think I'm going to go order an omelet in a few minutes...mmm... AND I will try to get to bed early tonight...hopefully I can keep the coughing down to a minimum.

Have a great day,

See?

See what happens when you're being so Smug??? Karma Karma Karma. I haven't worked out once this week, due to a cold I acquired over the weekend. I guess it wasn't a smart idea to make poor Shauna walk in the cold for so long with me...we both ended up sick. Sorry girl, I hope you're better before your TV appearance. Personally I feel that I'm on the up, even if I don't look so hot at the moment...and it hasn't been bad enough to make me miss work or rehearsals...however, I won't be having a voice lesson tonight...I don't want to take the chance of making my teacher sick and the rest of the studio in turn. Instead I'll just sit here at my desk and grumble and spit vinegar at everyone else around me (lol)...I'm such a nasty person when I don't feel good (or at least nasty for me). I do have to go to a dress rehearsal tonight however, but thankfully it's to do Hair & Make-up and not sing. I have to get better and in good voice soon, for we start Die Fledermaus rehearsals on Jan. 29th...and like I said, I do feel like I'm on the up of better...so that's positive. I guess overall I'm cranky because I'm sooo PMSing and TOM is due today and I know he's a comin'. When it rains, it pours...doesn't it?

I was terribly upset with The Biggest Loser last night...I felt Joelle deserved to go home (although her partner Karla deserves to come back). Joelle is full of crap "positive" sayings, but she's just that, a talker, not a do-er...nothing but excuses...blah, blah, blah...I say, shut up and just do it...gah! See I told you I was cranky.

Speaking on the BL related things, has anyone else purchased Jillian Michaels book "Making the Cut" ? Shauna (aka Diet Girl) and I were both talking about how we've both purchased it, but neither have yet to do it...and we mentioned that once she was back in the UK, that we might just attempt to do it and share virtually...eh hem...do you hear that Shauna...I think that sounds like a challenge girl! Anybody else looking to join in? Hmmm? It's pretty hardcore, if I remember right. I guess the first priority is to read the book again and then plan for the next 30 days with the book as a guide, and then, well,... do it. Don't worry, I'll let you know when the starting date will be.

Ok...I guess I've been rambling, but I'm under serious hormonal & physical distress at the moment...tends to cloud one's judgement. That said, have a great day...and if you're not having one, then look forward to the fact that it will get better.

So Smug

I know, I've been pretty lax about my blogging lately, but I've been really good with my eating...I've lost 8 lbs. in the past 2 weeks and I'm on my way back to the good healthy lifestyle.

Fun Happy News: Shauna aka Diet Girl is in NYC doing book promo stuff and I've had the pleasure of hanging with the fabulous ginger. She's so funny and down to earth, you can't help but love her. I even shamelessly purchased her book in front of her (several copies for my gf's) and made her sign every one...I've no qualms about whoring out my friends...and she even got a hand cramp because I made her sign so many copies...yeah, I'm terrible.

I had my cheat day with Shauna...we went to a little British eatery where they serve Tea, Scones, and the whole Shepherd's pie sort's of foods...I wanted to know how our little Brit place stacked up against the authentic types across the pond...the verdict...very good...the scones got high marks, as did the other dishes we shared. It was good my cousin tagged along or we probably would have way overdone it...yay for sharing goodies...it was a 3rd of the calories that way...if you're gonna cheat, make sure to take a buddy so the damage is minimal...everything in moderation kids. I forgot to mention, I also made her walk forever in the cold to and from, just to get to that little place in Greenwich...but hey we had to burn the calories for our little cheat meal...so it all balanced out in the end. It seems I make poor Shauna walk for days when she visits NYC...lucky for her she's a walking pro...heck she's a trained walk-a-thoner, so I know she can handle it. Heck I'm the one limping by the end of the night, due to my not-so-practical footwear that I always seem to don...meh, such is fashion in New York.

As for the rest of the week...well I've had my cheat meal, and now it's back to good, healthy eats that don't include empty carbs or processed sugars. And yes, I even hear the call of the gym...

Have a great day, and try not to hate me too much my fellow DietGirl-lovers...
